A World First! Embodied AI Robots Achieve Large-Scale Deployment in CATL Battery Production Line

Recently, the world’s first new-energy power battery PACK production line to achieve large-scale deployment of humanoid embodied AI robots officially commenced operations at CATL’s Zhongzhou Base. The humanoid robot “Moz” is already capable of accurately performing complex tasks such as battery connector insertion, marking a milestone breakthrough in the application of embodied AI in the field of intelligent manufacturing.

The EOL and DCR processes replaced by “Moz” represent the final functional testing stage before battery packs leave the production line. Characterized by “multiple product types, small batch sizes, and high flexibility,” this stage has long relied on manual operation. Workers must precisely insert test connectors carrying several hundred volts of high voltage into designated positions on the battery packs. This not only carries the risk of high-voltage arcing but also leads to issues such as unstable efficiency and quality.

The introduction of “Moz” has fundamentally transformed this situation. Equipped with an advanced end-to-end Vision-Language-Action (VLA) model, it possesses robust capabilities for environmental perception and task generalization:

  • Precision Adaptation: It can autonomously handle uncertainties such as variations in incoming material positions and changes in insertion points, adjusting its operational posture in real-time.

  • Flexible Operation: When plugging or unplugging flexible wiring harnesses, it dynamically adjusts the applied force to ensure reliable connections without damaging components.

  • High Efficiency and Reliability: In practical operation, its insertion success rate consistently exceeds 99%, and its work cycle time has reached the level of skilled human workers.

Today, “Moz” has become an indispensable member of the production line. It not only autonomously inspects wiring harness connection status, reports anomalies immediately to effectively reduce defect rates, but also proactively switches to patrol inspection mode during task intervals. When handling continuous production tasks involving multiple battery models, its daily workload has tripled, with exceptional performance in consistency and stability.

“Moz” was developed by Spirit AI Robotics, an ecosystem partner of CATL, and is powered by CATL’s self-developed batteries, representing an achievement of industrial chain collaboration. To translate real-world scenario requirements into engineering technical specifications, CATL collaborated with multiple departments to conduct in-depth production line research, jointly formulating a development plan that balances foresight with practical feasibility. This effort has laid the foundation for the large-scale deployment of embodied AI robots.

Looking ahead, building on the successful deployment of “Moz,” CATL will comprehensively enhance the automation and intelligence levels of its PACK lines. The company will continue to deepen the industrial synergy between intelligent manufacturing and green power, promote the application of embodied AI large models in broader scenarios, and contribute to the realization of global zero-carbon strategic goals.
